Frequently Asked Questions
Sealing your pavers is not mandatory, but it helps extend their life while preserving their textures, colors, and beauty for years. Benefits of sealing include:
- Protection from fading
- Enhanced colors
- Stabilized interlocking joint sand
- Easier stain removal
- Reduction of mold & mildew
- Prevention of weed growth
Sealing also stabilizes and hardens sand joints, preventing loosening and cracking over time.
It is recommended to seal your pavers six months after installation, allowing them to settle and for initial efflorescence to occur.
Efflorescence is a crystalline or powdery deposit of salts that often appears on the surface of concrete, brick, stucco, or natural stone. It occurs when water evaporates and leaves behind salt deposits on the masonry surface.
- Water-based sealers allow moisture to pass through the paver, effectively preventing efflorescence. These sealers penetrate the top layer, creating a moisture barrier just below the surface without making the pavers too slick.
- Oil-based sealers are topical, forming a glossy layer that can make pavers slippery, especially around pools. Water-based sealers retain traction and are much safer under wet conditions.
A high-quality water-based sealer should last 2-3 years before needing reapplication. However, longevity depends on maintenance, foot and vehicle traffic, and environmental factors like Florida’s intense sun. Ask us about our maintenance plans to extend the life of your paver sealing.
Typically, sealing is a one-day process (weather permitting).
- Eco-friendly hot water pressure cleaning using a 4,000 PSI pressure cleaner.
- Cold water rinse and re-sanding of all paver joints.
- Application of two coats of water-based sealer – a flood coat followed by a concentrated top coat.
- If your pavers were sealed with a water-based sealer, they can be resealed over the existing sealer.
- If an oil-based sealer was used and white hazing has developed, professional stripping of the old sealer will be required before resealing.
- Sealers take at least 30 minutes to dry, but drying times vary:
- Average drying time: 4-8 hours before rain exposure.
- Recommended curing time: 24 hours before exposure to rain, foot traffic, or vehicle use for optimal results.
- Driveway paver sealing helps protect against tire marks, stains, UV fading, and weed growth between joints. We recommend sealing every 2–3 years to maintain appearance and prevent long-term wear. Our driveway paver sealing service includes professional cleaning, joint sand stabilization, and a high-quality sealant for long-lasting curb appeal.
- Pool decks take a beating from sun, water, and foot traffic. Pool deck paver sealing helps lock in color, prevent mold and mildew, and reduce slipperiness. We use breathable, water-based sealers that are safe around pools and provide long-term protection with minimal maintenance.
- Yes! In addition to expert paver sealing, we offer pressure washing services throughout Venice, North Port, Wellen Park, Englewood, and nearby communities. Whether it’s a lanai, house exterior, driveway, or pool cage, our hot water system delivers a deep clean that lasts.
- While it may be tempting to grab a $200 sealer from a big box store, these off-the-shelf products are often lower quality, less durable, and not tailored to Florida’s harsh climate. Inexperienced application can lead to:
- Uneven coverage
- White hazing
- Trapped moisture
- Premature failure of the sealant
Fixing these issues often costs more than professional sealing would have in the first place. Patriot Paver Sealing & Pressure Washing uses commercial-grade water-based sealers applied with professional equipment after a high-temperature pressure wash and re-sanding. We tailor the process to your surface type and offer a maintenance plan and warranty to protect your investment long-term.
